A Brief Introduction
to Taishan University
Taishan university is a comprehensive
undergraduate university formed by the merging of five colleges in
Taian, including the former Taian teacher’s College and Taian
Educational Institute. This merger was ratified by the Ministry of
Education in March 2002. Located at the foot of the world famous
Mt. Taishan, and close to main railways and expressways, the
university enjoys beautiful scenery and convenient transportation.
Taishan University covers an area of 1,043
mu, with a floor area of 220,000 square meters. The campus has
modern facilities, including laboratories, a library, a student
entertainment center, a large sports ground and a gymnasium. The
classrooms and laboratories are fitted with advanced equipment,
the total value of which comes to more than 30 million yuan.
The university library has a collection of 650,000 books and more
than 2,000 periodicals of various kinds.
Taishan University is very proud of its
teaching faculty. Currently there are 1,014 staff and 48 percent
of the teachers are professors, associate professors or lecturers.
Some of the teachers are doctorate tutors, and some have been
awarded the title of National Model Teachers. Each year the
university employs two English native-speaking teachers to teach
listening and speaking skills to English language majors.
The university has 19 departments and faculies,
offering a total of 39 disciplines to more than 10 thousand
full-time students coming from 13 provinces and cities in the
country.
Taishan university attaches great importance to
the enhancement of its teaching and scientific research.
Remarkable achievements have been made in both teaching and
research in the fields of Modern and Contemporary Chinese
Literature, Mathematics and Mathematical Education, Historical
Culture, planning and Administration of Tourism, Chemistry and
Applied Chemistry. The university regularly publishes the
Journal of Taishan University.
Taishan university has made great efforts to
establish cultural exchanges and cooperation with other colleges
and universities, both at home and abroad. Between 2001 and 2002,
the university established friendly relationships with the Taegu
University of South Korea, and the Stamford College of Malaysia.
